Well I haven't written much today but I have been working on my story's structure as well as character goals ... so no more writing blind!!! I was having difficulties giving Bea a concrete and valid reason for changing her personality the way she will later on in the story. Quant is the key here... you can read a little taste of what's going to happen to Bea in the bit of text I wrote today... I will continue with it tomorrow!
Bea suddenly looked up as she heard Ael’lys voice call out to her. “I was just about to search for you, I wanted to say goodbye before leaving.” Sprawl out on her bed laid various outfits and potion bottles and Ael’lys was desperately trying to fit them all in a simple leather pouch. “Your going on another mission so soon?” Asked Bea angry at the temple for making her only friend work so much. She punched the doorframe in irritation. “Bea, what’s wrong?” Asked Ael’lys worried for she had never seen such an angered expression on Bea’s features before. “I’m only leaving for two day, Bea, I’ll be right back,” she adding with a calming smile. Bea knew she was lying for two reasons. First Ael’lys never looked at her directly when she lied and right now she was fumbling with her sanctified Liam whip trying to hook it to her belt. Secondly, she was packing for far more than two days judging by the clothes lay out on her bed. She had at least eight outfits there. Why was she lying to me, wondered Bea? What was going on in the temple lately? She had noticed for the past few weeks that many more missions than usual had been assigned. “You’ve had many missions lately?” Asked Bea concerned, “what’s going on? A war?” “Not at all, replied Ael’lys as she tied her black leather bootlaces, just the usual burial of an old lady who passed on. Nothing for you to be concerned with.” Another lie, thought Bea furrowing her brow. “Of course,” answered a small voice within her, a voice she had not heard before. “What did you expect, Bea?” it said calmly. “You are alone after all,” it continued, “no one really cares about you here, they are all lying to you for their own amusement.” It laughed. “Shut up,” yelled Bea grabbing her head in pain. She cried, Ael’lys just couldn’t do that. She was lying to protect her, of course that was it, she convinced herself. “Is that so, the voice giggled, you’ve always been a little on the naïve side haven’t you.” “Bea,” called Ael’lys concerned. She had run across the room when Bea had fell to her knees in pain. She wrapped her arms around the shaking Bea. “Where does it hurt,” she asked. Bea felt the warmth of Ael’lys’ body and calmed herself. Ael’lys cared for her that was obvious no?
“Shit! The connection cut,” swore Quant as the roll of parchment he held onto burst into flames. “Lucky for me, I bought several copies from that traveling monk,” he thought. He had worn that it only worked when the subject was in great emotional distress. He’ll have to make sure she is alone next time. He’ll have to enter the temple after all. Time for a little role-play!
