"We slice the air exuberant, learning the whims of the wind as we go clinging each to our own secret pocket of weightlessness. There is nothing to this falling out from ourselves. There is nothing more real. Like the graceful craning heron, we arrive to where we reach."

" Metalhead to the front and left of me has his music turned up so loud I can hear it through my own music. He has a moustache that looks like he's never shaved in his life. He's mouthing along to the words of whatever trash he is listening to, and he has outbursts of air guitar which often change to arm waves and at the end of the sing he raises his arms towards the sky. Our bus driver is yet another cracker (my definition), when we arrive in Wenatchee he says, 'Should you wish to venture outside the bus terminal I suggest you take your camera, so you can take a picture of us as we leave.'"

Despite the blowing sheets of rain onto his porch, Jason Black did not move. A dark silhouette leaned against one of the posts holding the porch up, he simply watched. A flash of light, a pause, a low grumbling growl of thunder. A gust of wind slapped his face with a splash of cold rain gentled by the screen it passed through. He still didn't move. Just watched and waited. Another zig-zag bolt and instantaneous crack. Behind him, he heard the refrigerator stop its incessant humming. Felt, rather than heard, all of the ubiquitous electronics shut down, motors stilling slowly. He rested his head against the post, but otherwise didn't move. A small branch dropped to the ground. Another flash of sheeting light, turning the dark of the afternoon storm into the bright day it should have been. His cell phone trilled and he finally started as if bitten.
"Enjoying the storm, are you?"
"Allie." He leaned against the post again, relaxed once more.
